Every single registered domain name has a minimum of two Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain name to the servers of a specific hosting company. In this way, you have got both your website and your e-mails managed by the very same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there is a variety of other records, like A and MX. The first one shows which server deals with the site for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server manages the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, any time you type a domain in your Internet browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you will be forwarded to the servers of another service provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having independent records for the website and the e-mails suggests that you may have your website and your emails with 2 different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting account through our company and you would like to direct either your site or your emails to an alternative provider, it is going to take you literally only two mouse clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard two, it's not going to take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a given MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you modify or set up will not take more than a few hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will remain active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, provided with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting packages, allows you to view the A and MX records for every one of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if required, to change any of them or set up new ones. Managing these records is incredibly easy because all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and in case you experience any issues, you can check out our instructional videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to provide you with complete control over all records and to enable you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are switching your emails to a different company and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
